Speech Sounds
Speech refers to the way we physically say sounds and words when we talk. Difficulty producing speech sounds is a normal part of typical speech development in very young children. Beginning talkers may only be understood 25% of the time by people outside of their immediate family.
However, as children get older, their ability to produce sounds improves and their speech becomes clearer.
By the age of
4, children should have mastered the vast majority of sounds in English and make themselves understood using clear speech even when talking to strangers.
As a Speech-Language Therapist, I diagnose and treat children with:
- Articulation Disorders
- Phonological Speech Sound Disorders
- Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS)
If you or your child’s educator are having difficulty understanding what your child says, they may be having difficulty in the area of speech production.
